Safety Advocates, Trucking Associations and Labor Join TogetherSafety Advocates, Trucking Associations and Labor Join Together to Urge Congress to Keep Electronic On-Board Recorders (EOBRs) Provision in Conference Report on the Surface Transportation Authorization Bill PRESS RELEASE: May 7, 2012; Leading safety groups, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and national trucking associations support the Electronic On-Board Recorders (EOBR) provision in the bipartisan surface transportation bill passed on March 14, 2012 by the U.S. Senate (section 32301 of S. 1813, MAP-21). This is the first time so many diverse organizations representing consumer, health and safety advocates, professional truck drivers and motor carrier companies have joined forces in support of a truck safety issue proposed in federal legislation. The measure directs U.S. DOT to require the use of EOBRs to assure compliance with hours-of-service (HOS) driving time limits for truck drivers. Enactment of this provision would implement a key safety recommendation of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). A letter signed by these organizations was sent to conferees on H.R. 4348 today, prior to the first conference meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 8. (See letter below)
